Zane's 6th Birthday

I had an absolute ball planning this party for Zane and I am now emotionally in creatively drained!

Zane turned 6 years old on the 31st of July. He was so excited about his birthday that you was litrelly jumping up and down telling “Ek kan nie nog een aand wag nie”

When the big day arrived, I was so lazy to get out of bed to go and sing for him, but I dragged myself out, and Danie as well, to sing Zane awake!

Then the day was ahead of us and all the things needed to be set in place. We had some missionaries over for breakfast that arrived late the previous night. The party started at 3:00.

Now let’s start at the beginning.

The cake was Diego’s Rescue pack (it is orange)

The snacks all had some animal in them, Diego loves animals.

Zane was dressed like Diego and received a rescue pack for his birthday, a friend of mine Naomi made the pack for him.

We started off with an animal chase, all the kids received a “video watch” with the animal they had to rescue, and each received their field journal to find information about the animal (I made everything)


Then we had the adventure race. All the children had to find their own sweets. There was the mountain.

There was the crocodile river

And the froggy pond, The rainforest, The flower garden


And finally Dora’s house

The smaller children had their own race inside the house!

Everyone was starving after all the racing and it was time to relax, watch some Dora on the TV and eat some cheese, crackers and cake!

Now it was time for the big finale! The llama piñata. No it is not a dog or a donkey it is a llama!

The kids really had some fun and yes I made it myself!

Each child received a bucket, and inside was their binoculars (made from toilet rolls) and their bag for all their sweets, and a magnifying glass to look for their animals.

Needless to say that everyone (including me) went to bed pretty early!

I enjoyed giving him this party. Zane was really enjoying himself and asked if we can have this party again.

If you wasn't sure of your calling - you can also start a birthday party company - will all your ideas. I bet Zane had a fabulous time. You have been such a good mother to him - very proud of you......

 Well, it is nearly Christmas and Corono is stronger than ever.... we also had an earthquake today. I felt it while sleeping and thought I was dreaming. So weird! Entering our third week in Ankara–in waiting…

  So we are entering our third week in Ankara – waiting on our visas.  We have used the time to catch up on some admin tasks, visiting friends, homechooling and enjoying the warmer weather. We are homeschooling the kids on Turkey history and the ancient cities etc.  We decided to have one ‘field trip” while in waiting and went to Cappadocia. (Kapadokia). Ons het een aand gaan oorslaap in ‘n grot hotel in Göreme.  We had some trouble with the GPS, although it spoke English all the other info was in Turkish.  So after period of trial and error we wound the town.  We also met up with other people from South Africa which was really nice. It was like entering a surreal place when you look over the Cappadocia valley. Fairy chimneys and the rock formations was just amazing.  The kids were entering one cave after another – eager to explore. Visiting the historical sites in Ankara.

  Part of our homeschooling this month is learning about Turkey and also the history of Turkey.  Here are some photos of where we travelled today.
