Christmas 2015

Image
This was our first real Christmas not in SA….  Last year was such a rush, but this year we struggled to decide what kind of Christmas do we want…. We were not with family in the warm summer, so we needed to make new traditions for us. We are still not at the new traditions, but we had fun trying some new ideas….. Jac decorated the cat as well Maybe we will never have a real tradition… always something new.. This year we had breakfast with Arnoud and Corne for Christmas… and deserts for the rest of the day… Here are some pictures – this is for our first Christmas, our second Christmas is tomorrow!  Still not sure how we will do this 2 Christmasses a year, maybe just stick to one, two is may to much work!

The blessings of friends and family

We were really blessed to have so many good friends and family visit us during the last couple of months.   Our last guests has left this morning.  We had a wonderful time to reflect on what we are doing here and what the future is holding for us in Macedonia. We had chance to take people to see the wonderful city we are living in, to see where we live and where we would like to make a difference. Some of our guests had to opportunity to visit the border at Tabanovce (Табановце)  where we are currently helping out with the refugees coming through Macedonia. The kids had time to enjoy every single visitor from aunts and uncles, to grandma and grandpa and friends for mom and dad, and even more friends…. even a friend for Zane all the way from Maine. Now who where our gosti (гости) (our guests) Hannes and Gerda ( June) On Mount Vodno With Engela (July)   At Sveti Jovan Bigorski Monastery     With Hendrik and Bets (September) With ...

The first rain of Autum

I am listening to the rain outside and can't believe I actually have a jacket on.  The seasons are changing and with it a little bit colder weather that is breaking the relentless heat of the last 2 months. Language learning the last 2 months has taken a lot out of me. I am very tired and also got the flu with an ear infection.  For the last couple of nights I did not sleep well at all and are hoping to recover from it soon. Through the sounds of the rains comes the sounds of the two closest Mosques' call to prayer. It sounds louder tonight. So what has happened the last two months back in Skopje.  It was summer holiday for everyone around us, but we kept on schooling to try and finish our year to start of the new year on a new schedule.  Danie and I have language lessons everyday for an hour, we are visiting people in the neighborhood and learning to cook the way Macedonians cook. The food our neighbor Betty makes is really good! Wish I could cook like that. ...
